Hidden Valley Trail
A favorite of many, the Hidden Valley Trail is a 2,000-foot vertical climb. This scenic trail in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest offers spectacular views, gorgeous wildflowers, and a chance to spot deer, elk, sheep, and other elusive Utah wildlife. While the majority of the trail is steep and challenging, you won’t have a hard time following the path since it is well defined.
To get to the Hidden Valley Trail, use the Indian Trail first. You’ll find a path that goes up into the hills and a painted sign on the nearby rocks.
Waterfall Canyon Trail
Another popular hike in Ogden is the Waterfall Canyon Trail. This trail is a short and steep climb to the top. Once you get to the upper end of the canyon, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking 200-foot waterfall. The water cascading down the enormous limestone wall is not to be missed.
If you plan on hiking the Waterfall Canyon Trail, start at the 29th Street Trailhead in Ogden. Use the trail that’s headed east and continue until you arrive to a larger trail. Once you pass by two large water tanks, you’re on your way up to Waterfall Canyon.
Ben Lomond Trail
The top of the Ben Lomond Peak is 9,712 feet, making it one of the highest peaks in Ogden, which means you get one of the best views imaginable. The summit offers striking views of the Wasatch Range, Great Salt Lake, and Ogden itself. You can also spot deer, squirrels, and, if you’re lucky, moose along the way. The Paramount Pictures logo showing the peak of a mountain surrounded by stars is said to have been inspired by Ben Lomond Peak. Legend has it that the logo was first sketched on a paper napkin back in 1914.
To get to Ben Lomond Peak, start at the southwestern parking lot in North Fork Park. Next, you’ll pass through a single track and a double track trail until you reach the Skyline Trail, which will lead you directly to Ben Lomond Peak.
Beus Canyon Trail
If you’re looking for a challenge, the Beus Canyon Trail is yours to conquer Starting with a moderate, two-mile hike, you’ll find the trail transitioning to a steep ascent to Mount Ogden. Throughout the hike, you’ll encounter eye-catching wildflowers, magnificent geologic formations, and panoramic views at the top.
Starting from the parking lot, the trail heads straight to the opening of Beus Canyon and continues along Beus Creek. From there, it’s a steep climb to the ridge in between Beus Canyon and Birch Canyon. The Beus Canyon Trail is 5.6 miles from point to point.
Strongs Canyon Trail
Located in Mount Ogden Park, Strongs Canyon Trail offers a scenic and secluded hike. You’ll find small waterfalls along the way and a variety of rocks to climb. From the 36th Street Trailhead, follow the wooden signs that head up to the canyon. You’ll notice a dirt path that ends near a small waterfall.
